17 - Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Black Mirror
Go on a thrilling ride through a lost temple in search of the legendary Black Mirror.
BACKSTORY:
A long time ago in Central America, prior to Spanish colonization, there was a magical mirror made of obsidian that belonged to the Maya. Crafted in favor of Kulkulcan, the feathered serpent god, it was said that whoever looked into the mirror would receive any wish they asked for.
In the year 1937, the famed archaeologist, Indiana Jones, went looking for this mirror. Following clues left by the Ancient Maya, he traced its source to this mysterious temple in Guatemala. Aiding him was an expedition party, who wished to venture into the temple to find the mirror. Although Indy warned them not to go in without him, several members disobeyed and disappeared.
In a desperate search for a new expedition, Indy has turned to tourists (the guests) to come in and find the mirror. He's not happy about sending guests into the lost temple, but he has decided that it's his best option of getting the Black Mirror.
QUEUE:
Guests follow a torch-lit passage towards the temple, which is done in the style of a Mayan pyramid. As they move through the jungle, they walk through an abandoned explorer camp, where several newspapers tell the backstory of the ride.
When the guests go into the temple, they move past several booby traps that have been deactivated by Indy. This includes a spiked ceiling being held up by a metal bar, darts stuck in the wall, and a spiked ball being held back by a crate. On the walls are Mayan drawings that tell the story of the Black Mirror.
Soon, guests enter a large room, where they go over a bridge and board a military transport from the other side. This is an EMV system that is designed to simulate rough terrain. Once they get in there, the guests put their belongings in a pouch and fasten their seatbelts.
RIDE EXPERIENCE:
The vehicles go under the bridge and through a dark hallway. It has stars on the ceiling, a blue glow to it, and statues holding diamonds. At the back of the hallway is a statue of Kulkulcan, who is holding the mirror. However, when the vehicles approach, the statue comes alive and demands that they go to the Gates of Doom.
Turning left, the vehicles move towards the gate. In the meantime, Indy appears and tries to close it, frustrated that the guests didn't pay respect to Kulkulcan before approaching the mirror. Luckily, the vehicles turn out of the room before being sucked in, encountering some fire on the way out.
In the main show scene, guests see an underground lake with a giant face of Kulkulcan, which shoots lasers as they pass through. They go into a dark room of bugs, a puff of air creating the illusion that one of them has flown over their head. They then turn into a room of the skeletal remains of previous explorers, which scream as they turn out.
The vehicles go over a rope bridge over the lake and enter a room full of snakes, including a giant cobra that tries to strike as they move by. The vehicles then go into Kulkulcan's face, where the ghosts of Mayan warriors are seen nearby. They go under a rat-infested tree and then several darts.
In a dark room, they see Indy, who tells them to turn on the lights. When they do this, a giant boulder is seen, moving in their direction, but they move under and leave the room. They then pass through a room where the crushed boulder is, Indy standing next to it. He bids the guests farewell and they return to the loading area. From there, they disembark their vehicles and take a passageway back to Adventureland.

21 - Treasure Falls Trails
Near the treehouse, guests can explore a jungle passage and secret tunnels as they look for lost treasure. They can go near waterfalls, discover a shipwreck, and see a play area for the kids.
22 - Pirates of the Caribbean
Embark on a voyage to a time where vicious pirates searched for gold, and even encounter a few surprises along the way.
QUEUE:
In the northeast portion of the land is a Caribbean village that mixes Spanish and British colonial architecture, even though their buildings fade into Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Repubic. In the village is a small fort at the foot of a mountain, atop of which a striking Caribbean fortress sits.
Guests enter the fort, which resembles the interior of the Salzburg fortress (and the exterior with the fort on a hill is a reference to that place.) They pass by portraits of Spanish settlers who had build the fort as well as a fireplace, some cannons, and suits of armor. Eventually, the guests will go down into the dungeons of the fortress, where they board their boats.
RIDE EXPERIENCE:
After moving out of the dungeons, the riders go underneath a talking skull. From there, they exit the area and head into a jungle. They pass the Blue Lagoon restaurant before continuing on. Soon, they will approach a Spanish fort, where they are moved upwards by a conveyor belt.
The boats hear swords clashing in the distance while British soldiers stand around the room, keeping an eye on the passing boats. They pass through a small prison hall, where a trio of pirates are trying to get a dog to give them the keys. However, the guests move out of the building and take a plunge down into a lagoon.
The boats pass through a bay where a pirate ship with Captain Barbossa is dueling with a fortress nearby. After passing through the scene, the boats head into a town square, where a pirate is dunking the mayor in the well. His wife tells him not to talk, but the pirate threatens her with gunfire. They also pass an auction, where pirates are dealing treasure with each other.
Soon, they go through an area where pirates are chasing villagers and vice versa. A pirate is waving a map in midair, claiming that Jack Sparrow will never see it. Little does he know that Jack is hiding in a barrel, looking at it from behind. The boats pass through the town, which has been set on fire, as the pirates sing. They head into an armory, where a pair of pirates are in a shootout, one with a gun and the other with a full cannon. Suddenly, the wall breaks open and the ships go down.
After passing by Jack again, the boats go into some caves. Here, they see the skeletal remains of several pirates. Two of them play chess while their captain is in bed. One of them is drinking, the cider spilling through its bones. The boats pass by a shadowy ship in a storm, but when lightning flashes, it is revealed that the one steering the ship is a skeleton as well. They pass through a place where the dead pirates are sitting in their treasure. Soon, they will find Jack Sparrow, sitting on a chair while surrounding by the gold. He sings along with the music as it comes back into the room. Afterwards, the boats head back into the loading area, where guests get off and take a passage to a gift shop, Pieces of Eight.
I love these details! It makes me feel like I’m there. I wish I knew what was original ideas though. I’m so impressed with them all. I also like the nod to some of the places we visited.
