14 - Garden of the Twelve Friends
In Chinese culture, there are twelve animals who represent the years, and someone born in the year of a certain animal possesses their traits. Now, the animals of the Chinese Zodiac are re-imagined as Disney characters and placed in this garden. This is a lot like the one in Shanghai, but in a circle shape and with disconnected walls.
Here are the characters representing the zodiac:
- Year of the Rat: Remy from Ratatouille
- Year of the Ox: Babe the Blue Ox from the Paul Bunyan short
- Year of the Tiger: Tigger from Winnie the Pooh
- Yeah of the Rabbit: Thumper from Bambi
- Year of the Dragon: Mushu from Mulan
- Year of the Snake: Kaa from The Jungle Book
- Year of the Horse: Maximus from Tangled
- Year of the Sheep: The Lambs from Mary Poppins
- Year of the Monkey: Abu from Aladdin
- Year of the Chicken: Hei Hei from Moana
- Year of the Dog: Dug from Up
- Year of the Pig: Hamm from Toy Story
What starts out as a nice safari becomes a wild ride through the wild side in this new roller coaster. It's basically Jungle Cruise re-imagined as a thrill ride.
QUEUE:
Guests walk into a Safari outpost, done in British colonial style. They walk down a set of ramps and pass by black-and-white photographs of previous safaris. Along the way, they also see statues of animals as well as educational billboards, talking about the animals they will encounter during the ride.
When they get to the bottom of a small pit, they board a vehicle designed to look like a safari jeep. The coaster takes up two cars and seats up to twelve people. They get in and store belongs in a pouch before pulling their lap bars down.
RIDE EXPERIENCE:
The cars move out of the station and into a tunnel, which goes below the river surrounding the island in the center of the land. As they go through it, their safari guide introduces himself over the intercom. What they say and the jokes they make during the ride is randomized, making it a different ride every time.
Soon they go up a lift and enter the island. They turn around a group of giraffes before heading into the jungle. They then go over a bridge, where they see some hippos in the water. Some of them move up with their mouths open as they pass.
After going past a tree full of monkeys, they head past some zebras, who look curiously at them. Before they can move on, lions are spotted. To get to safety, they take a detour into a cavern nearby. They exit the cavern only to find themselves at the end of a cliff, so they move backwards and go further into the cave. They move next to a waterfall, which the safari points out as "The Backside of Water." Like the Jungle Cruise, this is both the halfway point and the joke that always is included.
The jeep moves out of the cave and ascends a second lift. At first, things seem alright, but as soon as they get out, they find themselves in a camp overrun by gorillas. One of them is on a machine gun and pointed right at them. To escape, they go down a hill and move through a tunnel. On the other side, they pass the safari camp, stuck in a tree while a rhino pokes them. Hyenas are nearby laughing at the sight. The jeep turns left and goes past honey badgers and a snake in a tree before going near a pond. Crocodiles snap furiously on the right while a wall is on the left. The jeep then drops into a tunnel and moves through darkness before coming out in the pit. They move around elephants taking a bath in a pool before returning to the load station.
POST-RIDE:
Once they get their belongings and exit the vehicle, guests go up several ramps to a command station. Here, they can buy photos taken of them on the ride or shop at the Curious Monkey gift shop.
16 - Festival of the Lion King
Inside a large, African theater, guests sit in one of four seating areas and watch an African-style show celebrating the animated classic. Using a mix of puppetry, acrobats, music, dance, and stunts, this show is not to be missed.
